With Nyhart since 2011, Ashley is responsible for organizational development, talent acquisition, performance management, policy recommendation, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and all functions that deal with the needs and activities of Nyhart's employees.

Prior to joining Nyhart, she worked with large, highly regulated organizations. She has been essential in employee relations, benefits administration, developing employee programs and policies, wellness initiatives and other HR related functions.

Healthcare Actuary

Indianapolis, IN

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare or Pension Actuary interested in growing into Healthcare Actuarial Consultant role. This positon will allow the opportunity to expand your technical knowledge and industry expertise, consult with clients, and have the exam support needed to successfully achieve your FSA designations.

The Healthcare Actuary will play an important role in the overall service we provide to clients.

  • Complete actuarial valuation work as prescribed under GASB 74/75, ASC 765-10, and ASC 965-10
  • Calculate expected Incurred but Not Reported (IBNR) reserves and project health plan premium rates for self-insured groups
  • Perform and analyze calculations for special healthcare modeling projects
  • Communicate with client contacts on day-to-day tasks, data gathering, and delivery of results

The Actuary will also be instrumental in the growth and development of Actuarial Analysts.

  • Serve as technical expert and promote sound actuarial practices
  • Provide direction and training, including project management and work evaluation
  • Encourage a collaborate team environment that values knowledge and idea sharing

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • ASA designation required, pursuing FSA
  • 5+ years of actuarial experience in OPEB or Pension
  • Working knowledge of actuarial valuation software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication skills

Pension Actuarial Consultant

Atlanta, Chicago, and Indianapolis

Nyhart’s Defined Benefit team offers pension actuarial consulting services for government, church, public, and cash balance plans. Our actuaries use their technical, financial and administrative expertise to provide guidance in the design and maintenance of retirement plans.

Our Defined Benefit is looking for Pension Actuarial Consultants in Atlanta, Chicago, and Indianapolis.

  • Review and ensure timely delivery of individual benefit calculations
  • Review client data that has previously been prepared including performance of gain/loss analysis and assumption review
  • Review valuation reports and related required reporting for both PPA and Non-ERISA/Church/Government plans
  • Lead and review special projects, such as plan design, plan terminations, lump sum windows, multi-year projections, client conversions, and government forms
  • Primary contact for the client including independently leading client meetings and presentations
  • Consult with clients regarding benefit administration, pension regulations, and general retirement consulting topics
  • Review analyst work; act as final technical review for client projects.
  • Train and mentor actuarial analysts on technical work and client interaction
  • Assist leadership with internal development as needed
  • Analyze and improve internal processes and procedures to increase accuracy, consistency, and efficiency
  • Stay up to date on marketplace, regulations and trends related to all types of Defined Benefit pension plans

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics, or related field
  • 10+ years pension-related consulting experience

Our Defined Benefit team has an exciting opportunity for a Pension Actuary in our San Diego office. This positon offers an opportunity to expand technical knowledge, industry experience, and actuarial consulting skills, as well as exam support to successfully achieve SOA and EA designations. The responsibilities include:

  • Assist senior consultants with the design, management, administration, and communication for retirement plans
  • Prepare, review and ensure timely delivery of individual benefit calculations
  • Reconcile and analyze data, including performance of gain/loss analysis and assumption review
  • Prepare valuation reports and related required reporting for both PPA and Non-ERISA/Church/Government plans
  • Assist with special projects, such as plan design, plan terminations, lump sum windows, multi-year projections, and conversions
  • Complete annual valuations
  • Interact directly with clients regarding benefit administration, pension regulations, and general retirement consulting topics through email, phone, and on-site meetings
  • Analyze and improve internal processes and procedures to increase accuracy, consistency, and efficiency
  • Assist in the training and development of actuarial analysts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics, or related field
  • ASA or near-ASA designation required

  • Provide expertise and consulting with the design, management, administration, and communication of retirement plans for our client base of private, public, and church plans
  • Supervise and review client projects such as funding valuations, plan design, government filings, benefit calculations, etc.
