"Why do organizations seem to redesign their performance appraisal 'system' every
few years?"
We may be able to gain some insight into this question by asking employees and managers
how they feel about the organization’s performance appraisal system. From our own
research, we found that only 40% of all employees, 44% of management, and only 36%
of RNs believe their organization’s performance management system does a good job
of measuring their performance. Put another way, three-fifths of all employees believe
that their performance management system does an average to poor job of measuring
their performance. Further, when asked about their organization’s reward systems,
only 9% stated that they believe their organization does a good job of rewarding
employee contribution.
