A seasoned actuary and Nyhart’s General Counsel, Pat Scahill heads up the legal department at Nyhart, working with clients on authoring plan documents and ensuring compliancy.
One of Nyhart’s most experienced actuaries, Pat brings a unique capability as an attorney and is regularly called upon for her expertise by both clients and actuaries inside the firm. She regularly answers questions internally and externally with respect to plan documents, legal requirements for plans, and helping to interpret how the plan document provision should apply in particular situations.
Pat returned to Nyhart in 2006 after taking on key leadership duties at several prestigious national firms including William K. Mercer, Buck Consulting, ASA Actuarial Science Associates and global firm Ernst and Young. Her industry experience is broad with actuary consulting for the healthcare, banking, higher education and association industries. As a compliance consultant at American United Life she authored multiple Defined Contribution documents.
A nationally recognized authority on actuarial issues, Pat is one of six authors for the workbook on the fundamentals of actuarial practice, and serves annually as a facilitator for the Society of Actuaries Fellowship admissions course. She also was on the Board of Governors for the Society of Actuaries, including two years as vice-president.
Pat and husband Gary are involved in rescuing golden retrievers and enjoy photography, movies, reading, and walking.
