Charles Munsell

For more than 30 years, actuary and Nyhart principal Charles Munsell has provided his clients a variety of actuarial pension consulting, with a specialization in general plan administration and defined benefit plans.
After earning a bachelor’s of science degree from Purdue University in Applied Mathematics in 1980, Charles joined the regional actuarial firm Sheridan and Associates, where he oversaw a variety of clients and rose to the role of Vice President, serving clients with a focus on small plans. Charles joined Nyhart as an actuary and principal in 1991.
Today Charles is recognized as a trusted advisor to his consulting clients on pension issues, preparing annual reports, reviewing individual benefits calculations, as well as providing actuarial services including determining legal compliance, providing clients data for financial statements, and providing individual benefit calculations for retiring employees. A trusted partner to financial advisors, Charles works to develop and design Cash Balance Plans to maximize the impact of small corporations' retirement and tax strategies.
Clients rely on Charles ability to communicate and interpret complex employee benefit issues for both H.R. executives and employees. Charles regularly serves clients with employees ranging in number from as few as 50 to as many as 3,000.
Working across a variety of industries as a senior pension consultant, Charles has worked with a variety of companies including Mike-Sell’s Potato Chip Company, The Ohio Art Company, Reid Hospital, Smithville Telephone Company, and the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.
Charles is married and has four grown children. He is part of a contingent of Nyhart employees who are avid cyclists.
